California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has extended the public comment period for the agency’s proposed No Significant Risk Level (NSRL) for diisononyl phthalate (DINP) from Feb. 17 to March 11.
OEHHA also scheduled a public hearing on the proposed regulatory level on Feb. 25 at CalEPA headquarters in Sacramento. The hearing was requested by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), a chemical trade organization that sued the agency last June to overturn its listing of DINP as a Proposition 65 carcinogen.
OEHHA proposed an NSRL of 146 micrograms per day for DINP on January 2.
The listing of DINP by the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC), the state’s expert panel for carcinogens, created controversy when the CIC voted to list the chemical in December 2013. Prop 65 citizen enforcers have been able to serve 60-day notices on alleged violations of Proposition 65 resulting from exposure to DINP since December 20. To date 16 notices have been served on manufacturers of PVC gloves (14), seat back cushions (1) and sandals (1).
When: February 25, 2015, 2:00 P.M.
Where: Sierra Hearing Room located at the Cal/EPA Headquarters Building, 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA.
