EPA Formaldehyde Rule Stuck in Regulatory Freeze

Implementation of the U.S. EPA’s long-awaited rule pertaining to formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products has been delayed by the Trump administration’s “Regulatory Freeze Pending Review."

The freeze is intended to review pending regulations before they can be adopted and implemented.  The new administration is particularly concerned about recent regulations promulgated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

A major discount flooring retailer has been named in a Proposition 65 enforcement action that alleges Chinese-made flooring sold by the chain emits formaldehyde at levels far above the level requiring cancer warnings under California law, according to a lawsuit filed today in Alameda County Superior Court by Global Community Monitor.

Recent 60-Day Notices Summary - September-October 2003

Thirty-four new notices were filed with the Attorney General’s office from mid-September to early October. Environmental World Watch was the most prolific plaintiff. The group sent out 12 letters alleging failure to warn about marine engine exhaust emissions. The notices were sent to eleven boat manufacturers and one operator of party boats.
