Lauren Zeise, 62, of Berkeley, has been appointed director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) at the California Environmental Protection Agency, where she has been acting director since 2015. Zeise has served in several positions since 1991, including deputy director for scientific affairs and chief and acting chief of the Reproductive and Cancer Hazard Assessment Branch.
Previous to her tenure as an OEHHA staff toxicologist, Zeise served in several positions at the California Department of Public Health from 1989 to 1991. She served as acting chief of the Reproductive and Cancer Hazard Assessment Section, chief of the Cancer Toxicology and Epidemiology Unit and staff toxicologist. Director Zeise earned Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees in environmental sciences and engineering from Harvard University.
Ms. Zeise succeeds the late George Alexeef Ph.D., DABT, as director of the agency.
The position requires confirmation in the California Senate. The compensation for the director position is $163,500.00
