Cosmetics Companies Back Personal Product Safety Bill

Several major cosmetics companies and their trade association, the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) have given support the Personal Care Products Safety Act   (S 1014), a bill that would update federal safety standards for personal care products. The cosmetic companies believe a thorough modernization of cosmetics and personal care product regulations would halt the growth of state legislation that has been introduced to regulate the products to fill the void in federal agency enforcement.

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant Identification Committee (DART-IC) today voted unanimously to list the controversial chemical compound Bisphenol A as a female reproductive toxicant under  Proposition 65.

ACC Opposes Disclosure of “Dirty Dozen” Chemicals in...

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has submitted comments urging California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) to withdraw proposed changes to its Proposition 65 warning regulations. The trade association claims that new requirements to disclose the identities of a subset of 12 chemicals on the Proposition 65 list in product or facility warnings would “confuse consumers, increase costs and compliance burdens for business, and increase litigation.”

CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye told reporters in a press conference call that CPSIA rule 6(b) is an “anti-consumer safety, anti-transparency” requirement.
